CASAMENA

Over the next twelve months this blog will document the recording of CASAMENA's latest project, a hip-hop, bata exploration with Michael Spiro and your blog keeper, Carlos Mena. I've recently decided to include all things CASAMENA here as well so you'll read about other projects as well.

BASS! How low can you go?

So I just took Yunior Terry back to where he is staying, in Oakland... Who is Yunior? You're asking. Here's the story, local, funky bassist, Victor Little, tells me Yunior is in town last nite. So I get his cell, and leave a message. Just know that he has toured with Jerry Gonzales and the Fort Apache band, Steve Coleman, and Lila Downs, as well as playing with his brother Yosvany. The cat is bad with a capital B. Anyway, long story short we were here in the studio 'till 1:00am and he put down some very cool bass work. Thanks Yunior!!

From the first line he laid down, over Ochun's toque, it was on. I knew he would have no problems playing over bata parts, since he grew up with this music. This is going to be one fresh record. Even though we are just getting started, I can see it coming together. Can't wait for Mike to get back from his trip! We have a bunch of midi parts to put down still.
